Phragmipedium besseae

Phragmipedium besseae was discovered in the 1980's. Usually growing on rock faces in semishade with moderate temperature. Their native habitats in Ecuador and Peru. This exotic orchid has been used extensively in hybridization to create new line that is free flowering and easy to grow. They have flowers in dark red with 8 cm wide, some of them more yellow in Zamora population. This rare and endangered plant blooms mainly in autumn.
